2008-2010 F-Super Duty

This article supersedes TSB 10-23-6 to update the Part List and Service Procedure.

ISSUE:

Some 2008-2010 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.4L diesel engine may exhibit a lack of power, Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) on with Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P20E2, P20E3, P20E4, P2080, P2084, P242A, P242B, P0544 or P2031.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Monitor all Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs) using the Integrated Diagnostic Scan-tool (IDS) or equivalent. Are any of the following DTCs present? P20E2, P20E3, P20E4, P2080, P2084, P242A, P242B, P0544 or P2031?
    1. No - this article does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual to diagnose this concern.
    2. Yes - proceed to Step 2.
  2. Replace the faulty Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor based on the DTC present using the EGT replacement procedure below.
    1. Disconnect the faulty EGT sensor electrical connector.
    2. Disconnecting an EGT sensor with the key in the on position may force the vehicle into a one hour no crank lock out.
    3. Cut the EGT sensor connector wire leads just above the sensor.
    4. Apply heat to the EGT sensor mounting boss to aid in EGT removal.
    5. Use a 13 mm, 6 point deep-well socket to remove the sensor from the exhaust.
    6. Apply a small amount of Motorcraft® High Temperature Nickel Anti-Seize Lubricant to the threads of the new sensor.
    7. Install the new EGT sensor and torque the sensor to 30 N-m (22 lb-ft).
