  • LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID WILL NOT STAY OPEN - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 5/2/2013

FORD:
2013 Fusion

ISSUE:

Some 2013 Fusion vehicles equipped with a rear spoiler and built on or before 5/2/2013 may exhibit a concern of the luggage compartment lid will not stay open.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Pocedure Steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Remove two (2) push-pin fasteners securing the luggage compartment lid striker trim cover and remove the cover.
  2. Remove spare tire cover.
  3. Remove four (4) cargo net fasteners and two (2) push-pin fasteners securing the luggage compartment trim and position trim aside on right and left sides.
  4. Support luggage compartment lid in the full open position.
  5. Remove nylon tie strap holding torsion bars.
  6. Release clip securing the luggage compartment lid torsion bar. (Figure 1)

  7. Hold torsion bar using large tongue and groove pliers, or equivalent. (Figure 2)

  8. Lift up and push forward to remove the torsion bar from the bracket.
    1. Release tension by allowing the tongue and groove pliers to slowly rotate forward. (Figure 2)
  9. Remove the torsion bar from the opposite side hinge assembly and discard.
  10. Repeat Steps 6-9 to remove the 2nd torsion bar.
  11. Reverse removal Steps to install both torsion bars in the same orientation as removed.
    1. Ensure torsion bars are installed in the lower notch. (Figure 3)

  12. Install nylon tie strap in the same orientation as removed.
  13. Reposition luggage compartment trim and install fasteners.
  14. Install spare tire cover.
  15. Install luggage compartment lid striker trim cover and fasteners.
