Using Voice Recognition
To use the system's voice commands, press the voice control button on the steering wheel and wait for the prompt. See

This system helps you control many features using voice commands. This allows you to keep your hands on the steering wheel and focus on what is in front of you.

Any command below with a ___ is a dynamic voice command. What you say in place of the ___ depends on the context or type of voice command. For example, a ___ can be a contact, phone number, artist, genre, point of interest, temperature or radio frequency.
The following are some of the voice commands that you can say at any time during a voice command session:

Phone Voice Commands

Make sure that you are saying the contact name exactly as it appears in your contact list.
To access text message options, press the voice control button on the steering wheel and when prompted, say:

Phone Voice Service
Press and hold the voice button on the steering wheel to access this feature if it is supported by the connected device. For example this is how iPhone users can access Siri Eyes Free.
Navigation Voice Commands (If Equipped)
Setting a Destination
You can use any of the following commands to set a destination or find a point of interest.
___ is a dynamic listing, meaning that for navigation voice commands it can be a POI category or an address.
| Voice command | Description |
|---|---|
Find an Address | Allows you to enter the address search functionality. You can also search for an address in a specific state or province. |
Find a ___ | State the name of the POI category or major brand name you would like to search for such as "Find restaurants". |
Find a POI | Allows you to enter the POI search functionality. |
Find an Intersection | Allows you to enter the intersection search functionality. |
| Find the Nearest <POI Category> | State the name of a POI category or major brand name you would like to search for. |
Show Previous Destinations | Allows you to see a list of your previous destinations. |
Show Favorites | Allows you to see a list of your favorite destinations. |
Drive Home | Allows you to route to your home address. |
Drive to Work | Allows you to route to your work address. |
In addition, you can say these commands when a route is active:

Zoom in | Allows you to zoom in on the map. |
Zoom out | Allows you to zoom out from the map. |
Mobile App Voice Commands (If Equipped)
The following voice commands are always available:

Mobile Apps | The system prompts you to say the name of an app to start it. |
List Mobile Apps | The system lists all of the currently available mobile apps. |
Find Mobile Apps | The system searches and connects to compatible apps running on your device. |
There are also voice commands that you can use when app(s) connect to SYNC 3:
| Voice command | Description |
|---|---|
| Say the name of an app | At any time, you can say the name of a mobile app to start the mobile app on SYNC 3. |
| Say the name of an app, followed by Help | SYNC 3 lists the available voice commands for the specified app if the app is running on SYNC 3. |
| Say Close followed by the name of an app. | SYNC will quit the desired app. |
Voice Settings Commands
To access the voice settings, press the voice control button on the steering wheel and when prompted, say:

Voice Settings | Allows you to access the voice settings menu. |
Interaction Mode Standard | The system uses longer prompts when you switch on this setting. |
Interaction Mode Advanced | The system uses shorter prompts when you switch on this setting. |
Phone Confirmation On | The system asks for confirmation before placing a call. |
Phone Confirmation Off | The system does not confirm before placing a call. |
Voice Command Lists On | The system displays a short list of available commands. |
Voice Command Lists Off | The system does not display the list of commands. |
You can use the volume control to adjust the volume of the system voice prompts. While prompt is active, adjust the volume control up or down to your desired setting.
Automatic Fan Speed Reduction
Depending on the current climate control settings, the fan speed may automatically decrease to reduce the amount of background noise in your vehicle when making voice commands or when making and receiving phone calls.
The fan speed automatically returns to normal operation when the voice session ends. You can manually adjust the fan speed with the fan speed buttons or knob during a voice session.
To disable automatic fan speed reduction during voice sessions:
- Press and hold the A/C and recirculated air buttons simultaneously.
- Release the buttons, and then increase the fan speed within a few seconds.
To re-enable this feature, repeat the above sequence.
