  • INTERMITTENT AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 2/5/2012

2011-2012 Explorer

ISSUE:

Some 2011-2012 Explorer vehicles built on or before 2/5/2012 may exhibit an intermittent Air Bag Warning Indicator with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) B1212 and/or B1213.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Disconnect connectors C210 and C211. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-05, front door scuff plate trim panels, removal and installation for access.
  2. Disconnect connector C310A from the restraints control module (RCM). Refer to WSM, Section 501-20, RCM removal and installation.
    1. The RCM does not have to be removed for this repair.
  3. Apply Motorcraft® Electrical Grease to the female pins of connector C310A (pins 11 GN, 12 VT-GN, 17 GN, and 18 BN-BU), C210 (pins 27 GY and 32 VT-GN) and C211 (pins 52 GN and 54 BN-BU).
  4. Connect connectors C210, C211 and C310A.
  5. Install center console. Refer to WSM, Section 501-20.
  6. Install front door scuff plate trim panels. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
