  • 1.6L GTDI - DISABLING LIVE IN DRIVE FEATURE
Publication Date: March 25, 2013

FORD:
2013 Escape

ISSUE:

The Live In Drive feature was enabled on 2013 Escape vehicles equipped with a 1.6L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine and built on or before 2/13/2013 that received a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) update in service. Live In Drive enables temporary manual shift control of the transmission via the shift control toggle button with the gear selector in Drive (D). The vehicle system determines when temporary manual control is no longer desired and will revert back to full automatic control.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to disable the Live In Drive feature.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) release 83.03 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.

This calibration is available for customers that do not desire the additional functionality of the Live In Drive feature. The vehicle system will revert back to the original transmission operating characteristics, where the shift control toggle button will only be functional in Sport (S) mode.

NOTE:PLEASE ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
