The airbag is designed to deploy during a significant frontal or near-frontal crash. The airbag inflates within a few thousandths of a second cushioning forward body movement and deflates on contact with the occupant. The airbag is not designed to deploy during a minor frontal crash, rear crash, side crash or a vehicle rollover.
Switching the Passenger Airbag Off

You must switch the passenger airbag off when using a rearward facing child restraint on the front seat. |
The switch is on the passenger side end of the instrument panel. The passenger airbag deactivation indicator is in the center console.
- Insert the key blade into the switch.
- Turn the key to OFF.
- When you switch the ignition on, check that the passenger airbag OFF indicator illuminates. If it does not illuminate when you switch the ignition on, this indicates a malfunction. Have your vehicle checked as soon as possible.

- Insert the key blade into the switch.
- Turn the key to ON.
- When you switch the ignition on, check that the passenger airbag ON indicator illuminates. If it does not illuminate when you switch the ignition on, this indicates a malfunction. Have your vehicle checked as soon as possible.
