Resetting the Fuel Pump Shutoff Switch

The fuel pump shutoff stops the flow of fuel to the engine in the event of a moderate to severe crash. Not every impact causes a shutoff. Not every impact will cause a shutoff.
Should your vehicle shut off after a crash, you may restart your vehicle by doing the following:
- Switch the ignition off.
- Check the fuel system for leaks.
- If no leak is apparent, reset the fuel pump shut-off switch by opening the access panel and pushing in on the reset button.
- Turn the ignition to the on position. Pause for a few seconds and return the ignition to the off position.
- Make a further check for leaks in the fuel system.
- If no leaks are apparent, restart your vehicle.
Vehicles with Airbag
Should your vehicle shut off after a crash, you may restart your vehicle:
- Switch off the ignition.
- Switch to start position.
- Switch off the ignition.
- Switch on the ignition to re-enable the fuel pump.
- If vehicle does not start, repeat steps 1 through 4.

In the event that your vehicle does not restart after your third attempt, contact a qualified technician.

When you try to restart your vehicle after a fuel shutoff, the vehicle makes sure that various systems are safe to restart. Once the vehicle determines the systems are safe, then the vehicle allows you to restart.
Vehicles without Airbag
Location - 4 door
The fuel pump shut-off switch is located behind an access panel on the right side of the luggage compartment. The fuel pump shut-off switch has a red reset button on top of it.
Location - 5 door
The fuel pump shut-off switch is located behind an access panel in the right rear quarter trim panel, near the liftgate. The fuel pump shut-off switch has a red reset button on top of it.
