The airbag is designed to deploy during a significant frontal or near-frontal crash. The airbag inflates within a few thousandths of a second cushioning forward body movement and deflates on contact with the occupant. The airbag is not designed to deploy during a minor frontal crash, rear crash, side crash or a vehicle rollover.
Fitting the Passenger Airbag Deactivation Switch
WARNING   WARNING:  You must switch the passenger airbag off when using a rearward facing child restraint on the front seat.

If you need to fit a child restraint on a seat protected by an operational airbag in front of it, have a passenger deactivation switch fitted. Contact an authorized dealer.
Switching the Passenger Airbag Off
WARNING   WARNING:  You must switch the passenger airbag off when using a rearward facing child restraint on the front seat.

Passenger Airbag Activation and DeactivationSwitching the Passenger Airbag ON/OFF
ASwitch off
BSwitch on
Turn the switch to position A.
Airbag OFF  When you switch the ignition on, check that the airbag deactivation warning lamp illuminates.
Note:   The key switch is located in the glove compartment with the airbag deactivation warning lamp in the instrument panel.
Switching the Passenger Airbag On
WARNING   WARNING:  You must switch the passenger airbag off when using a rearward facing child restraint on the front seat.

Turn the switch to position B.
Never Use a Rearward Facing Child Restraint Symbol  When you switch the ignition on, check that the airbag activation warning lamp illuminates.
Note:   The key switch is located in the glove compartment with the airbag deactivation warning lamp in the instrument panel.
