WARNING   WARNING:  Do not apply the brake pedal and accelerator pedal simultaneously. Applying both pedals simultaneously for more than a few seconds will limit engine performance, which may result in difficulty maintaining speed in traffic and could lead to serious injury.
WARNING   WARNING:  When your vehicle is stationary, keep the brake pedal fully pressed when shifting gears. Failure to follow this instruction could result in personal injury, death or property damage.
WARNING   WARNING:  Apply the parking brake, shift into park (P), switch the ignition off and remove the key before you leave your vehicle. Failure to follow this instruction could result in personal injury or death.

Transmission Selector Positions
The instrument cluster displays the current position.
Park (P)
In park (P), power is not transmitted to the driven wheels and the transmission is locked. You can start the engine with the transmission in this position.
Shift into park (P) only when your vehicle is stationary.
Note:   The electric parking brake could automatically apply when you shift into park (P).   See   Electric Parking Brake - Automatic Transmission
Reverse (R)
Shift into reverse (R) only when your vehicle is stationary and the engine is at idle speed.
Neutral (N)
In neutral (N), power is not transmitted to the driven wheels but the transmission is not locked. In neutral (N) your vehicle has the ability to roll freely. You can start the engine with the transmission in this position.
Drive (D)
Drive (D) is the normal position for driving.
Manual (M)
In manual (M), you can upshift or downshift using the paddle shifters.
SelectShift™
Use this feature to upshift or downshift using the paddle shifters.
You can only use this feature in drive (D) or manual (M).
SelectShift Automatic Transmission
Pull any paddle to switch the feature on.
Note:   SelectShift in drive (D) provides temporary manual control of the gear selection.
  • Pull the right paddle (+) to upshift.
  • Pull the left paddle () to downshift.
In manual (M), press the manual (M) button to switch the feature off and return to drive (D).
Stay in Neutral Mode
Use this feature to keep your vehicle in neutral (N) when you exit the vehicle.
Note:   This feature does not function if the vehicle battery charge is low.
Put your vehicle in Stay in Neutral mode when entering an automatic car wash. Failure to follow this instruction could result in vehicle damage not covered by the vehicle Warranty.
Do not tow your vehicle in Stay in Neutral mode.
To enter Stay in Neutral mode, do the following:
  1. Bring your vehicle to a complete standstill.
  1. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  1. Shift into neutral (N).
Note:   A message appears in the information display.
  1. Press the manual (M) button.
Note:   A confirmation message appears in the information display when your vehicle has entered Stay in Neutral mode.
  1. Release the brake pedal.
  1. Switch the ignition off.
The transmission returns to park (P) if the vehicle battery charge is low.
Note:   Prolonged use of the Stay in Neutral mode could cause the vehicle battery to run out of charge.
To exit Stay in Neutral mode, press the brake pedal and shift into park (P), or start the engine and shift into drive (D) or reverse (R).
Shifting Out of Park (P) With the Engine Off in an Emergency
Use Stay in Neutral mode to move the transmission selector out of park (P) into neutral (N) if you cannot start the engine in an emergency.
Note:   This procedure does not work if the vehicle battery charge is low.
Do not tow your vehicle in Stay in Neutral mode.
WARNING   WARNING:  When doing this procedure, you need to take the transmission out of park (P) which means your vehicle can roll freely. To avoid unwanted vehicle movement, always fully apply the parking brake prior to doing this procedure. Use wheels chocks if appropriate.

  1. Switch the ignition on without your foot on the brake pedal.
  1. Fully press the brake pedal.Keep the brake pedal fully pressed.
  1. Fully press the accelerator pedal. Keep the accelerator pedal fully pressed.
  1. Shift from park (P) to neutral (N).
  1. Press the manual (M) button.
  1. Attempt to start the engine.
Note:   A confirmation message appears in the information display when your vehicle has entered Stay in Neutral mode.
Note:   You must complete this procedure in 20 seconds.
  1. Release the accelerator and brake pedals.
  1. Switch the ignition off.
The transmission returns to park (P) if the vehicle battery charge is low.
Note:   Prolonged use of the Stay in Neutral mode could cause the vehicle battery to run out of charge.
To return to park (P), press the brake pedal and shift into park (P).
Automatic Return to Park (P)
Note:   This feature does not function if your vehicle is in Stay in Neutral mode.
The transmission returns to park (P) if any of the following occur:
  • You switch the ignition off.
  • Your seatbelt is not fastened and you open the driver door.
  • The driver door is open and you unfasten your seatbelt.
Note:   This feature may not properly work if the door ajar switch is malfunctioning. If your door ajar warning lamp does not illuminate when you open the driver door or the warning lamp illuminates with the driver door closed, have your vehicle checked as soon as possible.
Transmission Not in Park (P) Audible Warning
Sounds when you open the driver door and you have not moved the transmission selector to park (P).
