Service Procedure

1. Restore communication to the PCM by removing the instrument panel cluster (IPC) fuse while reprogramming the PCM. This is done by removing the IPC fuse F13 in the body control module (BCM) and installing a temporary 2-prong fuse (with same current rating as original) in the BCM F12 location.

2. Reprogram the PCM using the latest software level of the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool.

NOTE: Performing the PCM reprogram also updates the transmission control module (TCM) software.

3. Remove the temporary 2-prong fuse and re-install the 3-prong fuse in F13.

4. Change the engine oil and engine oil filter. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01E.

5. Perform a reset of the engine oil change reminder. Refer to the vehicle Owner's Manual.

NOTE: Advise the customer this vehicle is equipped with an adaptive transmission shift strategy which allows the vehicle's computer to learn the transmission's unique parameters and improve shift quality. When the adaptive strategy is reset, the computer will begin a relearning process. This relearning process may result in firmer than normal upshifts and downshifts for several days.
